The majestic Table Mountain?
The breathtaking sunsets over some of the world’s most beautiful beaches? The colourful and vibrant people who call Cape Town their home? The endless shopping at malls and markets? The nightlife and restaurants take caters for every taste out there? The events such as its festivals, carnivals and world-famous sports competitions...? The list goes on and on!
The other day I decided to get out of the city for a bit. So I put on my walking shoes, filled up my water bottle, drove 5 minutes up the road and there I was, back in nature, as if I’d left the hustle and bustle of one of South Africa’s largest cities far, far behind me.
I started walking along Lion’s Head, which has spectacular views of the city on the one side and Clifton and Camps Bay beaches on the other. It was late afternoon and the sun was already making its way across the vast ocean, headed for the horizon.
My end point was one of many huge boulders, seemingly perfectly-placed so that I could sit on it and appreciate this beautiful summer’s evening sunset over the ocean. The only sound I could hear was the odd jogger running past. It was funny to think that Cape Town’s city centre was only a few minute’s drive away.
This, nature virtually on my doorstep, is what makes Cape Town so special to me.
